1. When in doubt, nap it out

Don’t worry, in college there are plenty of times for stress, so when the opportunity presents itself, take a nap, you deserve it. Take care of your mental health y’all.

2. Don’t stress over things you can’t change

So, you got a bad grade on a test? Yea, it sucks, but can you change it? No. Learn from your mistakes, don’t dwell over the past, and do better the next time. Your boyfriend broke up with you? Be sad, and then move on. You can not change it, and even if you could, do you really want to?

3. Be heard

Do not let people walk all over you. Also do not hide in the back of the room. Stand up for what you believe in. Join an organization. Run for class president. Do you, boo.

4. Do you really need at extra whip no foam latte from starbucks?

I can not stress enough how broke you will feel when you get to college. Especially that week after you pay for books and tuition. Start a savings account, save money for a rainy day and do not buy USELESS crap that you do not need or will not use.

5. Invest in a bike

College campuses are huge and while I definitely enjoy those 20 minute, hot sweaty walks from the north side of campus to the south, every single day, you will pray you had a bike. So, if you are about to be a college freshman, make that purchase now while you still can

6. And a good computer

Well, duh. This one is just matter of fact. I mean who uses paper and pencils anymore?

7. Not everyone will like you and you aren’t going to like everyone either.

And you should not really care. College is a mindfield, and it’s full of different people with different backgrounds, languages, and upbringings. You are not going to be friends with the girls across the hall, who stay up till 3 in the morning with their music blasting. Oh and you have an 8 am. It’s just life.

8. Not everybody has the best intentions

This one is a given, but it’s always good to discuss again. Especially now that your parents won’t be around to tell you who is and who isn’t good company, just be careful. Do not get mixed up in the wrong crowd and pay attention to how people treat you. Do they genuinely want to be your friend or are they using you? Pay attention.

9. Its going to be pretty difficult

I am not saying this to scare you. College freshman used to come and talk to me, and tell me how easy college was. Then I get here and it’s like a kick in the face. College isn’t meant to be easy, and freshman year is meant to weed out all of the weak ones who can not handle it. Freshman year was definitely not my cup of tea, but now it’s over and soon enough your freshman year will fly by too. Enjoy it, you will never be a freshman again.
